![]() ![]() We’re brought there to witness its genesis and effects.Īs we work our way through the generations, each ancestor has their own section of the novel where we get to know them and find out the effect the ‘curse’ has had on their lives. We discover that this curse comes from the actions of one of the ancestors, the original Kintu, the Popookino (community leader) from the 18th century. ![]() ‘Kintu’ is about a Ugandan family which is cursed. And yet, after this doozy of an opener, we have the carpet whipped out from under us as we find ourselves suddenly back in the 18th century, following a tribal leader who is going to pay his respects to a new king. ![]() Now, any book that starts that way will have my attention. ‘Kintu’ opens with a man getting his head staved in by a crowd who accuse him of being a thief. ![]()
